The Bush Camp at Faraway Bay

Nature at her most immaculate

We came, we saw, we fished, and how!!  Thanks to all the “FAB Team” who have made our stay so enjoyable and memorable.  The whole landscape is almost overwhelming in its raw beauty as there is so much to take in.  We will be back and soon we hope.  Just wonderful.

The Environment

Hidden amongst ancient ranges overlooking a spectacular bay Faraway Bay is a benchmark property in the Kimberley region and has led the way in nature-based low impact tourism.

Stringent regulations designed to maintain the integrity of the environment were applied during the development phase of Faraway Bay.

Today, sound environmental management practices continue to direct the day-to-day operations - with the aim to provide a true wilderness experience.

The Bush Camp is located on high conservation value land that has been recommended for future inclusion into the Western Australian conservation estate.

Heritage Value

Wherever possible, Faraway Bay's building infrastructure features local recycled materials or plantation produced timber.

This not only ensures a strong historic connection with the local area, but also minimises our environmental footprint.

The main building, Eagle Lodge, features timber salvaged from the Wyndham Wharf.

Flora and Fauna

Guests learn much about the Kimberley environment during a stay at Faraway Bay.

You can browse our comprehensive Wildlife Profile with photos and descriptions of common plants, animals, birds and marine life.

Our research library catalogues wildlife, bush tucker and ancient rock art.

Mirriwong Elder and Aboriginal spokesperson for Faraway Bay, Ju Ju Wilson contributes to the bush tucker species list and our guides explore the region, noting native wildlife and regularly discovering ancient rock art and archaeological sites.

In 2005 the Faraway Bay team discovered a live fresh water crustacean that is a species new to science!

Environmental Research

We regularly host and consult with a range of environmental experts who help us preserve ancient rock art sites, and investigate flora and fauna.

Scientific programs include archaeological, cultural, ethno-botanical and habitat research.

We contribute financially to these programs and your stay will help sponsor this important environmental work.
