Kimberley Art Camp, September 6-10, 2009. Faraway Bay is staging its first ever Kimberley Art Camp. The Camp provides guests with a unique opportunity to improve their art skills and be inspired by the pristine Kimberley wilderness. Led by renowned Broome-based artist Ingrid Windram, the Art Camp is designed for people at all levels of artistic endeavour. “It’s about creating an art atmosphere and immersing guests in the Kimberley environment,” said Ms Windram. Second Kimberley Cooking School
So popular is Faraway Bay’s Kimberley Cooking School that we’ve set an additional date - September 1-5. From Australia’s most exotic kitchen, guests have the chance to learn tricks, tips and inside secrets from one of the country’s top chefs, Chris Taylor, who oversees several of Perth’s famous restaurants. Olive Visits
An exciting visitor who's decided to visit Eagle Lodge is a rather large Olive Python. After making sure it was indeed a python and not a dangerous brown snake, guests enjoyed holding the friendly critter, which made for some great photos! There are two sub species of Olive Pythons in Australia. The Pilbara Python can reach up to 6.5m in length and our resident Olive measures up to 4.5m. Read more
Activities
- Walking on untouched beaches, and swimming in natural fresh-water pools are two of the activities you can enjoy at Faraway Bay.
- Exploring ancient rock art (it’s one of the most prolific areas for rock art in the Kimberley) and exploring the surrounding wilderness are all in a day’s work for our knowledgeable guides.
- Guided bush walks take guests up close to amazing Kimberley wildlife including lizards, birdlife, dingos, wallaroos, rock wallabies and ring tailed possums.
Favourite Faraway Bay Recipe
Orange and Chocolate Muffins
This recipe was snaffled from Mirra who’s started baking again and causing weight gain for the staff!
Bring a whole orange to the boil twice to remove bitterness from skin.
Mix 2 eggs, 230ml milk, 175ml vegetable oil and 3 tablespoons of maple syrup. Add whole orange and blend.
Mix in 3 ½ cups of self raising flour, 1 cup sugar and a teaspoon of cinnamon and a BIG handful of choc chips.
Place a piece of thinly sliced orange dipped in sugar on each muffin before baking.
Bake at 200C until risen and golden brown.

- Faraway Bay is becoming well known for its annual event series which now includes the famous Kimberley Cooking School with Perth chef Chris Taylor in May and September, the Bush Tucker Camp Oven Cooking School in June, and the Kimberley Art Camp in September.
- Plans are afoot for a celebrity chef cooking school led by high profile Sydney chef who’s regularly appears on TV – stay tuned!
Faraway Fast Facts
- Faraway Bay is located on a cliff top, 280km north west of Kununurra overlooking the Timor Sea
- Access is by chartered light aircraft from Kununurra, Broome or Darwin or by helicopter. From the landing strip it’s a four wheel drive trip to the camp.
- Construction of the Bush Camp was completed in 1996 and since then it’s won WA and Australian Tourism Awards.
- Faraway Bay is an exclusive property catering for a maximum of 12 guests in eight cabins which enjoy 180 degree views of the wilderness.
