THE culinary experience gained when travelling has become as important as any other.
There are tours, especially through South-East Asia and parts of Italy, where food exploration and discovery of recipe secrets make up a major part of the itinerary.
How many times have you returned from a destination and one of the questions your friends and family asks is: "What was the food like?"
Two WA companies involved in tourism have taken that into account when organising their recent promotions.
Faraway Bay, in the East Kimberley, has lured celebrity chef Pete Rvans to headline its cooking school at the end of next month.
Chefs are gaining a massive public profile with cooking and reality TV shows and Evans has appeared on both, most recently on Channel 10's MasterChef. He recently stayed at the poplar Faraway Bay as a guest and enjoyed himself so much he was easily convinced to return for this four-day venture from September 27 - October 1.
"You eat so well at Faraway Bay because you catch dinner every day plus the guys put on a great spread for breakfast, lunch and dinner," he said. "The staff are fabulous, the landscape is some of the best I've witnessed, and of course the fishing just tops it off.
"The lessons will be informative, entertaining and, hopeful ly, inspirational. If you love seafood then you'll be in great company - we will travel around the world with our flavours and keep it simple and delicious."
There are just 12 spots open for this experience, with prices starting from $4800 a person. The four-day packages include air transfers from Kununurra. the cooking school, meals and beverages, accommodation in a cabin with 180-degree views of the bay, sightseeing and excursions during the day, including boating to the magnificent twin falls on the King George River, fishing, exploring ancient rock art and a special recipe cookbook from the menus created.
