Western Australia 's Faraway Bay, The Bush Camp has won a coveted Australian Tourism Award, taking out the category of Unique Accommodation.

The remote East Kimberley wilderness retreat won the award at a gala ceremony at Canberra's National Convention Centre on Friday.

Owner's Bruce and Robyn Ellison flew to Canberra for the event and were excited to receive such a prestigious accolade.

"We are thrilled to be rated the best Unique Accommodation property in Australia," said Mr Ellison.

"It is fantastic to know that our hard work and dedication to providing guests with the ultimate wilderness experience has paid off," he said.

It's the second time Faraway Bay has won the national title for Unique Accommodation, also collected the trophy in 2005.

Faraway Bay was one of only two West Australian winners at the awards, and the only winner from the Kimberley. The other WA winner was Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association for best Visitor Information Services.

Faraway Bay, The Bush Camp is located in the remote East Kimberley region of Western Australia, 280km west of Kununurra overlooking the Timor Sea.

Faraway Bay provides authentic Australian bush camp accommodation and true outback hospitality.

Mr Ellison said the award was a real coup in such a competitive field.

"The competition from other states was incredible, so we are particularly honoured to have won the award."

Faraway Bay beat high profile finalists including Ossian Hall Valley Retreat in New South Wales, Quality Houseboats in South Australia, Queenslander Class on the Sunlander in Queensland, Redbrow Garden in ACT, and the Henry Art Hotel in Tasmania.
